The Dames Point Bridge is this architecturally awesome bridge connecting the north side of Jacksonville to Arlington (East Side). It crossed the St. John’s River, is the second tallest bridge in Jacksonville, and has what my mom referred to as ” concrete bow ties” stabilizing the bridge at the top. The mister took me to this spot a few weeks ago and I instantly fell in love with the endless shrinking tunnel effect the under belly of the Dames Point Bridge has. Lucky for me I decided to wear tights and combat boots with my dress on this day, so I was able to wander off into the small field of flowers beneath the bridge and pick these brilliantly colored mini flowers. It’s been four and a half months that we’ve been living in Jacksonville, and while I do miss South Florida (and I always will), I’m completely smitten with Jacksonville. I’ve never completely fallen for a city so quickly, but it has everything I love. It’s a gigantic city (largest on the east coast!) but has a super small town feel, its packed with incredible history and historical parks, monuments, buildings and more, and has the perfect weather. I cannot wait to explore this city more, and continue our adventure in our new home. Adventure, history and perfect weather wrapped into one? What more could a girl ask for!

Talk Bubble Dress via Gwynnie Bee | Seychelles Ampersand (in Clay) | London Retro Glasses (c/o)

I’m so proud of my hair in these photos. I made a faux beehive! Let me tell you my secret – teased hair & a hair clip. Seriously! I teased my hair, put it into a bun, and then raised the bun up in the back with a hair clip similar color to my hair. Hooray for easy hair styles! Let’s talk about how adorable this dress is. I mean, little chat or talk bubbles?? So cute! It makes me think about reading comic books, which I used to do when I was younger. I read Spawn and a few others, but always read them more for the artwork than anything else. I think comic book artists are so talented. I could never draw or even sketch anything even remotely close to the kind of flawlessness that is comic book art. While reading comic books may still be considered “nerdy” even to this day, I don’t care. Let me be my nerdy self and enjoy those little soft paged books of art and adventure.

In a last ditch effort to keep summer alive, I wore this incredibly comfortable dress from Thread and Butter, via Gwynnie Bee. While summer is on it’s way out, and I must admit I will miss the warm weather, it’s time to start planning my fall wardrobe. If you are looking to step up your wardrobe this fall, and want to try something new but are afraid to branch out or go out of pocket, you really should give Gwynnie Bee a shot. One of my all time favorites is a Sunday Brunch. Ever since I was a little girl, my grandmother would put on an amazing Sunday Brunch, and I would dress up like it was a tea party. Today as an adult, so many years later in my life, I still dress up as if it were a tea party when I go to brunch. While my parents where up visiting, Scott & I took them to the River City Brewing Company for brunch. It’s a pretty little restaurant and brewery sitting on the St. John’s River in downtown Jacksonville. When Scott & I first discovered it, we fell in love with it. The views of the river while boats go by while enjoying a delicious meal is so relaxing.

I’ve always had a difficult time accepting my body. When I was a teenager I struggled with an eating disorder, worked out like a fiend, ate barely anything, and despite all of that I never got smaller than a dress size 11. I couldn’t accept my large bone structure or my curves until I was well into adulthood. Now as a grown woman, and thanks to the many advances in plus size fashion, I’m in love with my body and my curves. I no longer look in the mirror with hatred and disgust. I look at myself and love every inch. It’s such an amazing feeling to put on a body conscious dress like this, and realize “hey, I look amazing & sexy in this dress!” Body image is something we as a society struggle with in our day to day lives. It’s something we can’t seem to get past, thanks to the media, diet fads, and let’s face it – our peers. We need to change that. We, as a culture, need to stop putting each other down. We need to stop the prejudice against one another – whether it be race, body type, feelings, all of it – it needs to stop. How can we ever expect to learn to love ourselves, let alone each other if we perpetuate the hate?

This week, I want to see you love yourself. Send me a tweet, tag me on facebook or instagram, or just use #KMLove – show me how much you love yourself and others!!

I am linking up with Monday Mingle & Style Sessions.

Lately I’ve been a huge fan of polka dots. I don’t know what it is about them! They are just so smiley and happy. So many people do not like polka dots at all. I think they have just the perfect amount of fun in them.

I am madly in love with maxi dresses lately. I can’t get enough of them. I want to wear them all day long – they are so incredibly comfortable, and this one is no different. Made from the softest jersey like material, it’s comfy, soft, and flattering. I love how flowy it is. I visited my favorite park to shoot this dress, I felt it would be perfect. I just wish I had gotten a few more shots, but it was so incredibly hot outside, I figured gross sweaty pictures wouldn’t show this dress correctly. How are you keeping cool this summer?

Ladylike

Zara Heels, floral dressFloral Dress, Zara Heels

Belted Floral Dress – Spense via Gwynnie Bee
Bag – Francesca’s
Heels – Zara
Necklace – Jewelmint
There’s something about a belted a-line dress that just makes me feel so ladylike. I think it’s the image that most people think of when they think “lady in a dress”. This dress sort of reminds me of the scene from Little Shop of Horrors when Audrey is singing “Somewhere that’s Green” – very 1950’s housewife, you know? Now I will spend the rest of my day singing that song…sigh..

The color blocking and style of this tunic from Gwynnie Bee really reminded me of the mod styling during the 1960’s. I had to recreate a more modern look out of such a cool style, and this is what I came up with. I love it. I wanted to change my name to something minxy to go along with my modern day retro vibe.

Seychelles Music to My Ears Pumps (on sale!) – Piperlime
Nail Polish – Essie’s “She’s Pampered”My grandmother sent my parents home with this ring for me (my mom got this other really neat one). As soon as I layed my eyes on it I knew I wanted it. My dad told me that she bought it when he was 8 years old, and wore it frequently. I love vintage jewelry (amongst everything else), but owning a ring that is from one of my favorite time periods (1960’s), and belonged to my grandmother is a double score for me. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately, even if it doesn’t match with my outfit – simply because I love it so much, and I love the little story I know about it.
